American Library reopening

Reopening information

In February 2020, the library closed for a long planned redevelopment.

We have changed our name from the Second Air Division USAAF Memorial Library to the American Library. Find out more about our history and development.

On Thursday 22 April 2021 the American Library will open with a limited service:

  • Browsing and borrowing of books
  • Visiting the exhibition

The library will be operating on a one customer (or one household of up to 4 people) at a time basis to reduce the number of people inside.

If you wish to borrow books you must bring your library card with you to the library.

Please note you must have your own personal headphones if you wish to listen to the audio content in the displays.

There is no access to public PCs in the American Library. If you wish to use a PC in the main Millennium Library you can find more information on the Millennium Library branch page.

There is no customer access to the film and object collections.

There is no research or study space in the American Library.

Current opening hours and more can be found on the Visit Us page.
