The American Library today

We are American Library - Memorial to the 2nd Air Division, 8th Air Force, United States Army Air Forces.

In everyday use we are known as American Library.

The Library is a living memorial to the nearly 7,000 American personnel from the 2nd Air Division who were based in East Anglia during World War II and were killed in action, as well as those who survived.

Its aim is to honour their memory and be a place of cultural exchange between the people of the United Kingdom, specifically East Anglia, and the people of the United States of America.

In February 2020 the library closed for a long planned redevelopment and reopened on 22 April 2021 as American Library.

The Library comprises an exhibition about the 2nd Air Division and a specialist WWII book collection; an exhibition and over 3,000 non-fiction books on all aspects of American life, history and culture as well as the best in classic and contemporary US fiction.
