The American Library today

We are American Library, Memorial to the 2nd Air Division, 8th Air Force, United States Army Air Forces.

In everyday use we are known as American Library. American Library is managed by Norfolk County Council Library and Information Service (NLIS) and funded by the Memorial Trust of the 2nd Air Division USAAF, a registered British charity.

The American Library is the memorial that those who served wanted. They established our supporting Trust before the war had even ended. American Library retains strong links with the veterans families and friends in the USA and the UK.

The American Library works in partnership with the Heritage League of the 2nd Air Division USAAF and collaborates with the many 2nd Air Division historic associations, museums, and volunteers in the UK and the USA. We also reach out to the wider 8th Air Force family and the US in Britain community.

The 2nd Air Division personnel who established the library were committed to creating a place where they could be a daily exchange of conversation about America. The American Library achieves this by stocking books and magazines about US life and culture. Through a scholarship programme with the University of East Anglia, the American Library maintains an American presence. The collections and programming of the American Library reflect the amazing diversity of American life.
